Periodická tabuľka
Periodická tabuľka chemických prvkov je tabulárna metóda zobrazenia chemických prvkov. Riadi sa tzv. periodickým zákonom, ktorý v roku 1869 publikoval Dmitrij Ivanovič Mendelejev, čiže zobrazuje pravidelne sa vyskytujúce trendy vo vlastnostiach prvkov v závislosti od ich protónového čísla. Tabuľka zatiaľ obsahuje 112 chemických prvkov.
História
Veľkú zásluhu na poznaní vlasností prvkov má známy ruský chemik Dmitrij Ivanovič Mendelejev (1834 – 1907). Zoradil všetky vtedy známe prvky podľa atómových hmotností a zistil, že vytvárajú periodický rad, teda rad, v ktorom sa vlasnosti prvkov pravidelne opakujú. V periodickej tabuľke, ktorú zverejnil vo februári roku 1869, však niektoré prvky chýbali. Už rok po zverejnení tejto periodickej tauľky, teda v roku 1870, bolo známych 64 chemických prvkov. Mendelejev správne usúdil, že chýbajúce prvky existujú, ale nie sú ešte objavené. Vývoj mu dal neskôr za pravdu a postupne boli objavené všetky prvky, ktorých existenciu predpokladal.
